***MIXTAPE*** Love On The Run and Foreal People on WNYU 89.1FM NYC Radio

It's been way too long since I've updated this blog! I promised myself I wouldn't post until I uploaded photographs from my Oslo experience, but while I still haven't gotten around to that, a lot of other good things have been happening and they deserve some Secret Rendezvous love.

We recently had a great Foreal People radio show on our favorite program "Let's Get Serious" on WNYU fm. You can catch the whole show HERE, and you can also download my set HERE!

It was a night of heavy Disco with the crew, and I started off with some midtempo soul, and worked the tempo up to full blown Disco cuts. I hope you enjoy THIS MIX!

Hit me back with any feedback or questions,
Peace...

Mizell Brothers with Monk One on Wax Poetics Radio

A fantastic special with the legendary Mizell Brothers in the studio. If you don't already know, they are behind massive Motown classics like Jackson 5's "ABC" and "I Want You Back", Disco bombs like A Taste of Honey's "Boogie Oogie Woogie" and LTD "Joy To The World", classic break records like Donald Byrd's "Dominoes" or Johnny Hammond's "Shifting Gears", and practically invented jazz funk with gems like Gary Bartz "Music is my Sanctuary". Monk was lucky enough to have them in the studio talking about their work, while he spun the tunes. This one is a must.

Sal P of Liquid Liquid and I on EVR last night

So after getting to know Sal over time, he was cool enough to hook me up with a couple of demo versions of tunes he recorded in the late 80s. I called him last night to ask if it was OK I play them on EVR, as I was a guest DJ last night. Not only was he cool with it, he told me he had more unreleased tunes from his post Liquid Liquid group "Fist of Facts" that he wanted me to hear. So I invited him down to the show with me last minute, and we were lucky enough to have him drop a couple of sick unreleased cuts on us. Apparently he is cleaning them up, and they should be released on a UK label this summer. Yay!

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THE SHOW

Oh yeah, I am DJ'ing quite a bit on this bitch, playing some weirdo stuff and some funky stuff and some Caribbean stuff, and some Afro stuff and some disco and some outer space shit too. Left field madness for sure.

Special thanks to Ron Morelli and Pete Leonard for hosting the show, having us as guests, and opening and closing out the show on the decks.

Hope you dig it, peace

Foreal People Midnight Mix on WNYU 89.1 FM last night

Foreal People on WNYU 89.1 FM last night:

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD SHOW

We were slated to play Macho City in Philly that night, and unfortunately the party is on hiatus, just like Foreal People has been. So we decided to get together and make sure something still went down that night, because it has been too long since we played together.

I set it off first with a boogie set, Benguin picked it up the temperature with the raw disco funk cuts, and Fox 50 went bonkers with electro-disco-boogie transmissions from outer space. Hope you dig it...

Ebony Cuts Radio Show

http://www.ebonycuts.com/ hosted by DJ Cubeism and Gloria is one of the top notch disco-modern soul-funk radio shows around. They have pod-casts you can download for free off of I-tunes too. I acutally owe them a mix. I'll get around to it very soon, I swear :p

Enjoy!

Mark Gurney over in the UK is running a terrific website called http://www.independentmovement.co.uk/ which documents quintessential American dance music and British dance culture. He's got photos of NYC and London in the early 90s in the gallery section, great mixes and much more!

Here is a link to a radio show Mark did with Keb Darge full of soul, funk, disco, boogie, unreleased Roy Ayers cuts and much more!

WARNING - This show is not safe for work either, unless your boss doesn't mind hearing FUCK blurted out of your speakers by a drunken Keb Darge from time to time!

King Stampede Radio Show - Love On The Run vs Benguin edition

Trampled under the foot of sound, looking up, swirling around your head disoriented, a light flashes...this is the midnight hour, anything is possible. From Detroit techno, to deep dub versions, Chicago house, different strains of disco, synth weirdness, to heavy psych rock of the world and well beyond. Maybe a mix show, maybe not a mix show, strap on your eargoggles, take a journey into another world and see what happens.

Ron Morelli and Pete Lenoard host the King Stampede radio show every other Thursday night at midnight on East Village Radio. On one evening, June 19th to be exact, they graciously played host to Foreal People DJs Love On The Run (me), Benguin and there was even a quick microphone appearance by Josh Dunn aka Fox 50. WARNING - This mix is not safe for work! There was mucho alcohol consumed, and I was drunk, violent, picking fights with my friends, and dropping F-bombs like the US Military was carpet bombing caves in Afghanistan. Props to Benguin for weathering my drunken belligerent storm. However, beyond all the chaos, there is actually a show filled with beautiful music that we are very proud to stand behind. Ron Morelli sets it off with soundtrack composer Lalo and some cool ambient and soundscapey stuff for the first 15 or so minutes, and sets it up for Ben and I to tag team afro and caribbean disco, and eventually we get into some quality boogie, disco, and even a deep house tune or two. PROPER!

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE SHOW - WARNING NOT SAFE FOR WORK UNLESS YOUR BOSS DOESN'T MIND HEARING THE WORD FUCK OVER AND OVER AGAIN

PS For the record, Benguin showed up to the next Foreal People with the record in question. Thanks Benguin!

Fox 50 & Wax Poetics Radio Show

If you spend the night in, Thurday nights are the business on East Village Radio. Our partner in Foreal People crime Josh Dunn AKA Fox 50 hosts the Wax Poetics Radio show from 10pm-12 midnight. Josh is a recent transplant from Detroit, and he is our new friend. He has some HEAVY crates. Seriously, he needs a crate boy to help him carry them. Click on the link to hear the latest show, and submit your crate boy resume:

WAX POETICS RADIO SHOW

Last night's show had Sampo aka Dj Anonymous arriving from his flight directly from Finland. It was nice to meet him and the hang with the crew last night. Hazy memories of great tunes, too much beer and wine for me, and chocolate chip cookies. Trust me, you don't want to miss this one. Check it while it's still archived!
