Ramsey and Company - Love Call

Good luck grabbing an original copy, this is one rare as hen's teeth and expensive little tune! Recorded by a band in Catskills, New York, which was basically a fancy vacationing spot in the country side back in the day for rich Manhattanites, where bands could regularly get work playing for the crowds, this one was never sold or distributed through traditional channels. I'll just have to be happy with my re-issue of this one.

Here is the official press release from Lotus Land which is an entertaining read:

NEW YORK, 1979 – RAMSEY & CO. was the group Mainor Ramsey had pieced together to play the Catskills supper club circuit. Their only release being the super charged sexy disco hit “Love Call” backed with super blaxploitation fodder “Leg Grease”, release on Mainor’s own label, Ramco. This limited styrene 7” single was sold exclusively at the groups live shows and never saw it’s way into proper distribution. 500 press? Oddly this limited release eventually found it’s way onto the dancefloors of the UK’s northern soul/modern soul scene, and became a super smash ripping up floors whenever played. The sheer quality of this tune mixed with the utter rarity has made this record nearly impossible to find and quite valuable on the collector’s market. We did some serious homework and located Mainor in NYC. We were stunned to learn that despite this tune’s mega reputation (not to mention world famous DJ Harvey re-edit on BBE) that Mainor had no idea about his tune’s “afterlife”. We proudly present to you the very first vinyl release of this deep disco classic.
