Annette Brissett "Drums"

A real underground Disco cut for the floor! Massive Reggae producer Bullwackie aka Lloyd Barnes is the man behind Wackies, and has been producing classics from his native Jamaica all the way through his move to NYC where he founded his cult classic record label. Lloyd produced this cut for Annette Brissett, who is one half of the The Love Joys, an essential group to check for on his label. This particular LP is mostly ballad type of cuts, maybe a bit too sappy for me personally, but this storming disco groove cuts through like a knife. This is what I'm talking about when I say underground sounds. Dark, deep, percussive Disco that is straight up FIRE. The drum breaks SNAP! Save this for dark rooms with heavy bass systems and a real crowd of heads wanting to throw down.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Derrick Harriott - Let It Whip

An undeniably charming and bouncy Jamaican Boogie Funk cover of the classic Dazz band tune, by all time great producer and performer Derrick Harriott. Warming these winter days up with some more sunny vibrations.

Horace Andy - Nice And Easy / Nice And Easy Dub

Horace Andy's version of this tune that was previously recorded by Susan Cadogan and produced by Lee Scratch Perry is just unreal. This tune is featured on an upcoming mix I did for the 100 Limousines website, chock full of soul, disco, boogie and island sounds. Stay tuned in and easy for 2013!

Ishola Muhammad - Open Up Your Heart - Mastered

Fryer (Jazzman Records / Soul Spectrum ) presents a super LTD audiophile 12” "Direct Analogue Cut" of Ishola Mohammad - Open Up Your Heart.

Ishola Muhammads ‘Open Up Your Heart’ was discovered in 2010 when the 1st known copy that popped up on ebay was bought by keen eyed Northern Soul collector, and late last year at around the same time another collector was negotiating to buy the last remaining copy owned by Ishola himself. Since then only 1 further copy has shown up and has changed hands privately.

This records was a true labour of love with lots of help from friends and music lovers, Well know NYC radio Presenter Mat Winegarden (Downtown Soulville) Picked up the Original Tape Master in New York from Lenis Guess and sent it over to Scotland where an initial digital backup master was made, after which the original master flew with Fryer to the mighty Timmion Cutting Lab in Helsinki, Finland. There we spent a day fine tuning a direct from master tape cut right to the Neumann VMS70 lathe without any unnecessary signal-path. After much tinkering a super wide grooved loud cut onto 12 that has to be heard to be appreciated loud, deep and low. This is the way 12" were made to sound their best in the late 70s/ early 80s and why they have not been matched since. This release is ltd to 500 and will not be repressed.

"Cutting From Analogue Tape

Timmion Records is one of the few mastering studios in the world that can truly cut to vinyl directly from analog master tapes.

This is done with our customized Studer A 80 reel to reel tape machine. Our A80 is equipped with separate preview head and playback head. Preview signal is used for lathe pitch control and playback signal is the actual signal that is being cut on the master lacquer disc.

Some studios might say they are able to cut directly from analog source. In reality they still have to send the audio through a digital delay device, and the analog signal can only used as the preview signal for lathe pitch control and delayed signal is the one that is being cut on master laquer. Getting rid of the digital-analog conversion is one of the most crucial steps to make your record sound even better and truly make the most out the analog master tapes. We use 1/4″ (15 IPS) tapes at our cutting studio.

Most of the stuff cut nowadays is from digital master source and therefore good D/A converter is crucial for the sound. When working with digital master source we use Universal Audio 2192 D/A converter. It’s one of the best sounding converters around!

Please note that we need the master tape in ready-to-cut-condition. Meaning tracks need to be in order and pauses between tracks in a correct length. We are happy to do the work for you if you wish, but hourly rate will be applied and invoiced accordingly."

Chris Rhodes Band "Gotta New Lease On Love"

Feeling blue eyed? Thus is a nice blue eyed soul tune from a band out of Boston. It grows on you, and goes well with fresh orange juice and toasted flagels during those car rides to the beach on hot summer days. Summer dreaming...

Red Stripe 002

The wait is over, as the mystery man Waxist Selectah finally pressed this latest round of JA edits up on vinyl! Great Jamaican modern soul tune on one side, and funky JA Disco Rap groove on the flip. I think Juno has these, and they are super limited, so don't sleep!
